THE POSITION(S)
Nutritionists act as consultants to the Health Department, other County departments, private agencies and the publicto promote a program of disease prevention through nutritional services. These services may involve any aspect offood buying, preparation and consumption. Educational techniques such as lectures, training sessions, audio-visualaids and explanatory material are used extensively.
The classification of Nutritionist is distinguised from the higher level class of Senior Nutritionist by the fact that theNutritionist is given responsibility for handling components of a nutritional program within the County while the Seniorlevel is assigned total responsibility for planning and monitoring county-wide programs consisting of multiplecomponents in design and function.

Senior Nutritionist - $1780.80 - Current Bi-Weekly Maximum.
THE REQUIREMENTS: These are entrance requirements for admission to the examination, which is competitive. Possession of the entrance requirements does not assure a place on the eligible list. A candidate's performance inthe examination will be judged in comparison with the performance of other candidates.
EITHER I EDUCATION: Possession of a master's degree in nutrition, public health nutrition, or other appropriate field from arecognized college or university, plus completion of an internship approved by the American Dietetic AssociationAND
EXPERIENCE: One year of full-time professional experience in nutrition or dietetics.
OR II EDUCATION: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in nutrition or public health nutrition, or some other appropriate fieldfrom an accredited college or university plus completion of an internship approved by the American DieteticAssociation, AND
EXPERIENCE: Three years of professional experience in nutrition or dietetics.
LICENSE: All candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Eligibility for registration with the American Dietetic Association.
THE EXAMINATION
THIS IS A REOPENING OF AN EXISTING EXAMINATION. The names of qualified candidates in this examination will bemerged onto the existing list according to examination score. This list may be canceled at any time, without noticeto candidates.
The examination may include but may not be limited to: KNOWLEDGE OF Principles and practices of modernnutrition; principles of education and counseling (normal and therapeutic); elements of food value, costs and budgeting.ABILITY TO Plan nutritional programs and coordinate them with other departmental programs; write and speakeffectively.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: A review of candidates' applications and supplementalquestionnaires to verify possession of minimum qualifications. Those candidates who possess the minimumqualifications for the class will be placed on the eligible list based on an evaluation of education, training, andexperience.
