THE POSITION(S): Alameda County's Health Care Services Agency,
Division of Environmental Health, is currently accepting applications for
Registered Environmental Health Specialist. Registered Environmental Health
Specialists are assigned to a geographical district where they are responsible
for providing and maintaining all types of sanitation inspection services;
investigating complaints as they arise; and enforcing appropriate state health
and safety codes, local codes and regulations.
PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Registered Environmental Health Specialist
may advance by competitive examination to: Senior Registered Environmental
Health Specialist - $2740.80 - Current Bi-Weekly Maximum.
THE REQUIREMENTS: These are entrance requirements for admission to
the examination, which is competitive. Possession of the entrance requirements
does not assure a place on the eligible list. A candidate's performance in the
examination will be judged in comparison with the performance of other
candidates.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with
major work in environmental health science or a related field.
LICENSE: All candidates must possess a valid California Motor
Vehicles drivers license.
CERTIFICATE: Valid certificate of registration as a Registered
Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California. [Information

THE EXAMINATION: THIS IS A REOPENING OF AN
EXISTING EXAMINATION. The names of qualified candidates in this examination
will be merged onto the existing list according to examination score. This list
may be canceled at any time without notice to candidates.

The examination may include but may not be limited to: KNOWLEDGE OF
principles and practices of sanitary food production, processing, and handling;
principles of rodent and vector control; techniques of conducting sanitation
inspections, and enforcing relevant laws; and provisions of the Health and
Safety Code and local ordinances relating to environmental sanitation.
ABILITY TO explain and interpret rules, regulations and laws; establish
effective working relationships with others; write narrative reports, and to
speak effectively with the public, co-workers and related agencies.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: A review of
candidates' applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession
of minimum qualifications. Those candidates who possess the minimum
qualifications for the class will be placed on the eligible list based on an
evaluation of education, training, and experience.
