2012 Best of the Web Winner

The 2012 Best of the Web awards, a joint endeavor of Government Technology and the Center for Digital Government, were announced Thursday, August 23, 2012. Alameda County's website won 3rd place in the county portal category.

The Best of the Web Awards contest which has recognized excellence of official Web portals of United States cities, counties and states for the past 15 years, honors governments whose websites demonstrate innovation, usability and maximum functionality for users. Best of the Web honorees have sites that also contribute to governmental efficiency by contributing to effective service delivery. Submissions from U.S. cities, counties and states were judged by executives from the Center for Digital Government, along with a panel of past Best of the Web winners.

2011 Best of the Web Finalist

In its 16th year, Best of the Web (BOW) recognizes outstanding government portals and websites based on innovation, functionality and efficiency. Alameda County's website was selected as a finalist for the "Best of the Web" awards sponsored by the Center for Digital Government. Our website was selected as one of the top county websites in the country three years in a row.

2009 Best of the Web Finalist

Best of the Web ranks the top U.S. state and local Web portals, recognizing advances in digital solutions and communication with citizens, government communities and business. The Digital Government Achievement Awards showcase progressive and innovative Web sites and digital applications by government entities worldwide. Alameda County's website was a finalist for counties with 500,000 or larger population.

2009 Digital Counties Survey Winner

A national survey was conducted by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties (NACo) to name the top-10 most technologically-advanced, cutting-edge county governments in the United States. Alameda County ranked 5th in that survey for counties with 500,000 or larger population.

2009 NACo Achievement Awards

Counties are the governments of the future. They are innovative and progressive, creating a variety of programs to meet the needs of their citizens. To recognize the creativity and imagination of counties, NACo presents a number of awards each year to county officials, their employees and the counties themselves.

Alameda County was awarded two 2009 Achievement Awards for the following project/programs:

  • Registrar of Voters, Asset Tracking Using RFID Technology
  • Registrar of Voters, Roster Index Book Imaging and Recognition Procedure

2006 Excellence in EGovernment Award

The National Policy Research Council reviewed over 11,000 government websites and ranked them using categories like usability, responsiveness, and e-payment capabilities. Alameda County's website was among the top scorers. The County's website was ranked second among large counties (population over 250,000).

2005 / 2006 Best of the Web Finalist

Alameda County's website was selected as a finalist for the "Best of the Web" awards sponsored by the Center For Digital Government. Our website was selected as one of the top county websites in the country two years in a row.

2004 / 2005 Digital Counties Survey Winner

For the second year in a row, the Center for Digital Government selected Alameda County as one of the top digital counties in the United States. A national survey was conducted by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties (NACo) to name the top-10 most technologically-advanced, cutting-edge county governments in the United States.

The 2005 Digital Counties Survey, which examined how county governments are evolving in their use of information technology (IT) to deliver services to their citizens, grouped counties into four population categories: 500,000 or more; 250,000-499,999; 150,000-249,999; and less than 150,000. Alameda County Information Technology Department Director Dave Macdonald said, "We are very proud that for the second year in a row, the County has been recognized for its efforts."
