Objective This board shall have jurisdiction over all variances and conditional use permits except for those that the board of supervisors may from time to time determine to be under the jurisdiction of the planning commission, and shall fill all other functions as defined in Title 17 and other sections of the Alameda County Ordinance Code, including all functions formerly held by the zoning administrator except as may otherwise mandated by the board of supervisors, in and for the area covered by the East County Area Plan as adopted by the board of supervisors on May 5, 1994, or as may be modified by the board, plus that area of Supervisorial District 1 as adopted by the board of supervisors on August 14, 2001, located outside the East County Area Plan area, as shown on the map titled "East County Board of Zoning Adjustments Boundaries," dated January, 2002, on file with the Alameda County planning department.

Term (Seats) Members shall be appointed to 4 year terms. No member may serve more than two full four-year terms, nor more than ten years total. Any member of the boards may be removed at any time by majority vote of the board of supervisors.
Meetings First and third Wednesday of each month.
Qualifications Each member shall reside in the jurisdictional area of the board and at least two members shall have some agricultural background.
Appointments Consists of three members. The Supervisor representing District 1 shall be entitled to nominate not more than two persons for membership on the board. The Supervisors representing Districts 1 and 2 shall be entitled to nominate jointly not more than one person for membership on the board. Each member of the board shall reside in the jurisdictional area of the board and shall not hold any other county office nor be a county employee.
