Community Climate Action Plan for the Unincorporated Areas of Alameda County:
Background and History | Links (Local Info and Tips)

We want your input!
Between August 2009 and March 2010 county staff and consultants will draft a community Climate Action Plan (CAP) for the unincorporated areas of Alameda County. These communities include Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, El Portal Ridge, Fairview, Hayward Acres, Hillcrest Knolls, Mt. Eden, San Lorenzo, Sunol, and Rural East County.

The CAP will contain objectives, measures and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from activities within the community such as:

  • Transportation choices (e.g. improving bicycle infrastructure and bus links)
  • Water conservation (e.g. efficient appliances and use of rainwater)
  • Waste diversion (e.g. improving recycling and composting services)
  • Building and public realm energy use (e.g. energy efficiency retrofits)
  • Green infrastructure (e.g. expanding the urban forest)

Many of these measures may have positive benefits for the local community such as improved air quality, reduced energy bills and traffic congestion, as well as global environmental benefits.

We are looking for your ideas and feedback on what measures and actions you think will work best to reduce the carbon footprint of your community. There are three ways to provide your input.

Win a Commuter Bike!
To encourage your participation, and to promote alternative transportation, everyone who participates in the online survey or attends the public meetings will automatically be entered into a prize drawing for a commuter bicycle. Each participant can enter their name only once in the survey, and once for each type of meeting they attend (Gathering Ideas, Refine the Draft), for a maximum of three entries (two meetings, one survey) per participant. Participants must be over 18 and reside in the unincorporated areas of Alameda County to be eligible for participation. The winner of the raffle will receive a gift certificate to a local bicycle shop to purchase their own commuter bicycle. Online surveys will be accepted until Friday, October 23, 2009. Written comments will be accepted throughout the Climate Action Plan process and beyond.

Public forums: Each Set of Facilitated Forums Will be Held In an East and West County Location.
