*** As of June 22, 2021, the Alameda County Clerk-Recorder's Main Office in Oakland is now open for in-person services.


Note: At this time, the Tri-Valley office in Dublin will remain closed for in-person services.


Our main office in Oakland is open to the public with the following modifications:

  • All visitors must first obtain a ticket for all services at the 11th Street patio entrance
  • Masks are required when entering the building.
  • Cut-off times for the following services:
    • 4:00 PM - Issuance of marriage licenses, filing of environmental impact reports, and para-professional registrations including: process servers, professional photocopiers, legal document assistants (LDAs), and unlawful detainer assistants (UDAs)
    • 4:30 PM - Document Recording

We continue to encourage customers to utilize online services to reduce in-person traffic.

  • Reduce your wait time! Pick-up option now available!
  • Order online. When your order is ready, simply pick it up at the main office in Oakland.

Marriage Services

  • In-person marriage ceremonies are by appointment only. Click here to book an appointment. Please note that a valid California marriage license is required before a ceremony can be performed.
  • Due to occupancy limitations, only the couple and 8 guests total will be permitted into the building.
  • We encourage customers to complete the marriage license application online.

Parking, Public Transit, and Accessibility Information

There is limited metered street parking. Parking is available at the Oakland Museum (on Oak between 10th and 12th Street) for a discounted fee with Clerk-Recorder validation.


The Recorder's building is a few blocks from Lake Merritt BART station.


NOTE: Our busy time is noon to 2:00 PM. Please avoid these hours, if possible, for faster service.
