And the winners are...

Alameda County held its first "hackathon" on Saturday, December 8, 2012. The ACApps Challenge 2012 brought together developers, activists, citizens, and designers to make apps that would benefit the communities of Alameda County. The participants arrived bright and early in the morning ready to code and collaborate. There was a great display of teamwork and some friendly competition. While we did announce 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, the real winners were Alameda County and its residents. With so many great apps and ideas presented at the ACApps Challenge, we now have a great starting point to offer services to the residents of Alameda County utilizing the County's data and the apps created by the developers.

There was a great turnout for the event! A total of 24 teams presented their awesome app ideas. The winning app at the challenge was...BookIt!. The BookIt! app connects Alameda County residents to their local libraries. The coolest feature of the app allows a person to scan the barcode on a book with their smartphone and it instantly searches the Alameda County Library system for that book. It then displays which library branches stock the book and if the book is available. You can also reserve the book using the app. Congratulations to the BookIt! team!!
