Sherry Higgs was inducted into the Health category in 2013.
In 2010 Sherry Higgs was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer - one of the deadliest forms of breast cancer. The diagnosis led to an endless number of treatments at hospitals and clinics. Her cancer is now in remission, but the experience created a determination to help women facing similar health crises who do not have the network of support that Sherry had. She founded Drivers for Survivors, a nonprofit that pairs local volunteers with cancer patients in the Tri-City area to transport and accompany them to doctor visits and medical appointments. A one-time human resources account executive for large corporations, Higgs now devotes her life to cancer awareness and helping others. She continues to recruit new volunteers who provide rides, friendship and crucial support to women battling cancer.
