Ruth B. Love was inducted into the Education category in 2013.
Dr. Ruth B. Love served as Superintendent of Schools in Oakland and Chicago and takes great pride in improvements in student academic achievement that took place in both cities under her leadership. For many years she has applied her expertise to help agencies locally and worldwide to enhance educational opportunities for underprivileged children. She has worked to build schools in Africa and to recruit minority students into the Doctor of Education program at UC Berkeley. Ruth also has served as an education advisor to several presidents including President Barack Obama and former South African President Nelson Mandela. Raised in Bakersfield, she is known for the dogged determination that has helped her blaze new trails for women in education by ascending to leadership positions once exclusively occupied by men.
