Sandra Pitts-Johnson was inducted into the Justice category in 2013.
Sandra Pitts-Johnson is a Juvenile Institutional Officer at the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center. She is known for the care and compassion she shows the young people with whom she works. In addition to her regular job duties, Sandra established a program called "Giving Back,'' which exposes youth at Camp Sweeney to media arts by having them produce a program on public access television. The program features interviews with people working to make our community a better place, providing the young producers with new sources of inspiration in addition to new skill sets. Sandra also co-chairs Alameda County's LGBT Task Force, which is developing anti-discrimination policies for local juvenile detention facilities, and she was named Alameda County's Juvenile Institutional Officer of the Year in 2012.
