Hilary Bass was inducted into the Emerging Leader Category in 2018.
As Executive Director of the nonprofit Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Activities League (DSAL), Hilary Bass has led a dramatic expansion of strategies that strengthen ties between Sheriff’s Deputies and residents to fight crime and build healthier communities. In partnership with the Sheriff’s Office, she has launched and sustained wildly successful youth boxing, dance and soccer programs and secured private sector support for DSAL’s innovative, action-oriented approach to public safety. Over the past decade, Hilary has secured funding and partnerships that have grown DSAL’s annual budget from $25,000 to nearly $3 million and helped expand DSAL’s role in the community. She is a constant source of creative solutions to challenges in Alameda County’s unincorporated communities and is adept at overcoming any obstacle in her way. As one colleague puts it, “Hilary is strong as a mule and sometimes as stubborn as one.”
