Margaret Dixon was inducted into the Education Category in 2019.
Margaret parlayed her love for teaching and police work into a career serving residents of her native Oakland. Margaret was an elementary school teacher when she was recruited into the Oakland Police Department to serve as one of its first black women police officers. Her career flourished and in 25 years with Oakland police she was a reliable mentor and role model to women and students of color. In 1986, she was the first woman to be named Oakland Police Officer of the Year. Margaret now chairs the Administration of Justice department at Merritt College, preparing a new generation for criminal justice careers.
