Moina Shaiq was inducted into the Community Service Category in 2019.
Moina Shaiq is passionate about correcting misconceptions about the Islamic faith. A Muslim born in Pakistan, Moina chose to act following a mass shooting in San Bernardino in 2015. The Fremont resident took out a newspaper ad inviting anyone interested to meet her for conversation at a local coffee shop. More than 100 people joined her that first day and her program, “Meet a Muslim,” has since taken its message of love and understanding to people in nine states. She seeks to change one heart at a time by eliminating fears people have about others who do not look, talk and worship as they do.
